Getting the Best out of your Wedding Photography

So many people are disappointed in their wedding photographs because they choose their photographer unwisely and don’t make the most of opportunities.

Firstly choose a photographer whose work is in a style that you like. Make sure you see a wide selection of weddings and that you don’t just see the best shots, but everything taken at a wedding. See my website www.amazing-weddings.co.uk

Ask how long the photography session takes at the wedding, as one of the biggest complaints is the amount of time taken up with posed photos.

Make sure you get on with the photographer because they are going to be at your wedding for quite a time and will be mixing with you and your guests.

Ask when they will be leaving the wedding, as this is often not made clear.

Make sure that you know exactly how much the final cost will be for the result and product you want. Many photographers charge a basic cost including a few pages in the album and then charge very high prices for extra prints and pages.

Ask how long after the wedding before you see proofs and finished album as this can vary enormously.

A summer wedding at a good location with enough time to take a relaxing set of photos is going to be better for nice photographs than a winter wedding at a poor location late in the day as the light goes down. This may sound basic, but it’s surprising how many couples choose a “romantic” winter wedding and than complain that the photos look dull and they got frozen taking them.

I had a client who booked a wonderful castle with fantastic settings and gardens, but chose late in the day in mid-winter for the wedding. By the time the ceremony was over it was almost dark and it rained, so all the pictures had to be taken inside which always takes longer.

Finally, set a sensible budget. Weddings cost a lot of money and it’s a false economy to choose a photographer who is too cheap as you usually get what you pay for. Experience counts when it comes to wedding photography and people skills are just as important as photographic ones.
